Competitive scholarship program for low-income students who have completed high school. Two scholarships per year are available to help cover post-secondary education expenses, funded through the Community Services Block Grant.
Kentucky Utilities customer-funded program providing monthly electric bill credits during peak usage months. Participants receive seven credits: four during heating season (December-March) and three during cooling season (July-September).
Weatherization assistance application services connecting eligible residents with energy efficiency improvements and safety upgrades. We help with the application process for insulation, heating system repairs, and other home weatherization measures through partner agencies.
Federal program offering two types of energy assistance: regular subsidy payments for seasonal heating/cooling costs and crisis assistance for households facing utility shutoffs or energy emergencies. Includes application assistance and eligibility screening.
Partnership with Southeast Kentucky Housing and Homeless Alliance providing comprehensive case management, housing location assistance, employment support, transportation, and technology training for individuals and families experiencing homelessness.
Crisis assistance for families facing unexpected emergencies. Provides funding for utilities, medical supplies, clothing, housing deposits, and other essential needs when federal assistance is unavailable or insufficient.
USDA-funded nutrition program providing free breakfast, lunch, and dinner to children 18 and under during summer months when school meals aren't available. Meals are served at various community sites with supervision and activities.
Comprehensive transportation services including medical appointments, job transportation (at half price), veterans services (free local trips), public demand response, and intercity feeder services to bus terminals. Serving all of Harlan County and out-of-town destinations.
Community partnership program connecting volunteers with low-income homeowners who need basic home repairs. Volunteers provide labor for minor plumbing, electrical work, structural repairs, and accessibility modifications when materials are available.
Federal workforce development program offering job training, career counseling, education assistance, and employment services for adults, dislocated workers, and youth ages 16-24. Includes tuition assistance, resume help, and job placement support.
Kentucky Utilities customer donation-funded program providing utility assistance to households that don't qualify for federal programs but still struggle with energy costs. Funded through voluntary donations on KU electric bills to help neighbors in need.
